Easter Poem
Tears spring to my eyes when I think on what you’ve done
for a sad, sorry sinner like me.
When I fall to my knees it is hardly an act
of strong faith, but of weakness relieved.
For so long I stayed lost, stumbling through silver streets
seeing shiny things through muddied lenses.
Then I bumped into a man in the raindrops with me
and suddenly this life had a mission.
Resurrected from death, now I know which side wins -
not the shadows of memories to haunt me.
I awake from red dreams to a sky full of blue.
We are purple, red, yellow- hues of a family.
It’s so hard to explain how I know this is God;
For the last week, I’ve wracked my brain.
All I know is I’m here and alive and I asked for signs;
To ignore these would be insane.
Now my eyes look ahead; there’s still heaviness in step
yet a purpose that’s pulling me forward.
In my darkest of days, He called me to be brave
and He washed away old me, the coward.
There’s new life in these bones like the ones in the desert;
You turned my depression to dancing.
With the joy of forgiveness and mercy so mild,
you breathed through the stone; now the stones sing,
“Glory to God; these Hosannas we raise
though we weep for the pain we have caused thee.
‘They know not what they’ve done’ - you forgive the betrayer;
Lord, have mercy. You love dearly. Even me.
